Copenhagen is the very first part of the video!

My friend Dave and I spent about 3 days in Copenhagen during the summer of 2015, mid June to be exact, as part of our larger Scandinavian Vacation.  

Accommodation 
We stayed in a mixed person dorm in Copenhagen Downtown Hostel, which as its name aptly describes, had a great centralized location.  The hostel was clean and had a nice bar downstairs that served breakfast in the mornings.

Getting Around 
Copenhagen is a very walkable city and is actually quite easy to get around.  Bikes are also everywhere, so you might consider renting a bike to help you navigate around to all of the sites you want to see.  

Things to do in Copenhagen

• The Nyvha - This is the iconic picture spot of Copenhagen as colorful cafes and bars line the water.  Watch the sunset from the water’s edge while enjoying a glass of wine or beer either from a restaurant or on your own.  
• Climb Our Savior's Church - For just a couple of dollars you can climb to the top of this church’s spire which provides unparalleled views of the city.  Definitely, definitely worth a visit.  Although if you are afraid of heights....
• The Little Mermaid - I suppose that no blog post about Copenhagen could be considered complete without mention of the Little Mermaid Statue.  The statue is meant to depict the main character from Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid .  Personally the statue is not particularly impressive in any way, but if you venture up to the north of the city to check it out I'd recommend that you take some time to walk around the park and view some of the other sculptures.  
• Free Walking  Tour - There are likely several free walking tours in the city. I would definitely recommend doing one that leaves from the shopping district near a statue of a man on a horse near a fountain (I know this is vague but I forget the exact company).  The tour was highly informative and funny as it talks about the history of Copenhagen and how they do not like the Swedish!
• Christiania - This is the well known “Hippy / Lawless” Zone of Copenhagen. Inside you’ll find legitimate restaurants to eat at and a small concert venue.  Aside from this, there are some shopping stalls set up, as well as dispensaries of weed and possibly other drugs operated by people wearing masks behind netted / camouflaged stalls.  Make sure not to take any pictures in here, as it is reported that people will take your camera and destroy it if they catch you doing so (because the pictures could prove they are selling drugs). ​
  • Try to check out when they have a free concert, it is pretty interesting to see a free show.  There are tons of options for food and drink right next to the stage, so grab a drink and some food and enjoy!
• ​Rosenborg Castle - This is a beautiful castle surrounded by ornate gardens and a modern day park.  On a sunny day this was absolutely beautiful and is actually in the very beginning of the video.  
• Botanical Gardens - These are just north of the Rosenborg Castle and have tons of beautiful flowers and meandering paths.  
• Town Hall - Located near Tivoli on one of the main squares this beautiful building has a great golden clock inside and some nice high ceilings.  
• ​Public Trampolines - Walk along the water to find the trampolines and other cool “play things” like jungle gyms and even ladders to go swimming (I didn't swim!).  I famously wiped out on these trampolines, but at least the locals got a good laugh :)
• Danish Museum of Art & Design - Dave and I wandered in here one afternoon because we saw a sign for free cake! While the free carrot cake was good, the museum was also very interesting.  A variety of furniture and other objects from the far away past all the way up to the present is on display.  There are chairs made of Newspaper and clocks made out of trees. 
• Frederik's Kirke (Church) - This large church is located just across from the Opera House.  Walk inside and be taken aback by the incredibly high ceiling and then walk past the fountain to the water to view the Opera House.  
• Opera House -  While viewing the modern architecture of the Opera House from across the water is nice, I'd highly recommend you look to see if there are any special events going on at the time you are there.  During the summer months they do a high diving competition from the top of the Opera House building.   I didn't actually get to see it firsthand, but I wish I had! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvSLHi5-XD0 
• LEGO Store -The Danish invented LEGOS!  Go and check out the main store and look at a miniature model of the Nyvha.
• Tivoli - This is an amusement park that is right in the heart of the city.  I didn't have time to go, but you might consider checking it out if you've got the time. 

FOOD

• Torvehallerne - This is a large covered market area with over 60 different vendors!  It is located right near Norreport Station and has tons of local treats.  There is also ample seating outside so you can grab something to eat and then soak up some sun.  
• Smourobread​ - These are local open faced sandwiches that you've got to try while you are in town!  I'd recommend that you get some at the  market mentioned above.  
• Chocolate Covered Churros - It must sound strange to say that you should eat some Churros in Copenhagen, but there is a great place on the Nyvha to grab some as a snack. 
• Meat Packing District – Supposedly this area comes alive at night and is a good place to go and eat / hangout.
